This talented Charleston indie rock band took the stage at Thunderbird Café & Music Hall on June 18 and kicked off the night with “Feel It All Again”—and the crowd truly felt it all. Thanks to the energy set by opening act The Band Solstice, the audience was already fired up and more than ready for the night’s headliner.
The Band Solstice proved to be the perfect supporting act for Winyah. Their rock-driven sound complemented the night’s vibe perfectly, and their cover of a classic song by Pink Floyd was a crowd favorite. They brought the kind of stage presence that naturally commands attention.
Winyah continued their set with several songs from their album Lot to Learn. “Mamacita,” “Lovely Girl,” and “Lay Me Down” were standout moments of the night for me. The band also treated fans to performances of their single, “Rat Race” and upcoming single “Spinning,” set to be released on June 26. Lead singer Thomas’s uniquely raspy yet soothing voice stands out on recordings, but it’s even more captivating live.
To close out the evening, Winyah ended with a classic by Jack Johnson. As the opening notes of “Good People” filled the room, the crowd sang along louder than ever, creating the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.
If Winyah happens to be coming through your town, do yourself a favor and catch a show. Between their infectious energy, heartfelt songwriting, and impressive performance, they deliver the kind of concert experience that leaves you wanting more. Whether you’re already a fan or discovering them for the first time, a Winyah show is one you won’t regret seeing.
